Snowy Thanksgiving Week
While a stormy and snowy pattern may get folks in the mood for the holiday season over the next week, beef producers and holiday travelers need to be prepared for poor travel weather and stressful winter weather conditions for young and weak livestock.
There will be two separate storm systems moving across the country this week. The first storm will bring heavy snow to the Rockies, High Plains and Northern Plains along with much colder temperatures.
The second storm will impact the West Coast, Rockies and Northern Plains late in the week and over Thanksgiving Weekend. Travel will be difficult, and the below normal temperatures and cold wind chills will be stressful on young and weak livestock.
The graphic below shows the snowfall potential over the next ten days across North America. Note the widespread snow from the Sierras to the Rockies and the Northern Plains.
