Title: Chilly May Weather

If you have thought that May has been a chilly month so far, the graphic below would say you are correct! After what was a chilly April in many areas May has been very cold compared to normal temperatures.

The graph below shows temperatures relative to normal since May 1. The green and purple areas that have been as much as 5 to 10 degrees below normal.  Essentially just about everyone (except Texas/New Mexico) east of the Rockies has had a cold May so far.
While it has been warm in California and the Desert Southwest, the rest of the nation has experienced a very chilly May.  We can thank two big cold air masses that dropped south out of the Arctic and into the central and eastern U.S. for the cold weather.

For those of you wanting warmer weather (especially in the central and east), the news gets better starting this weekend and into next week as the warmth in the far west and southwest will expand eastward. The result will be much warmer temperatures for the last ten days of May, especially for central and eastern areas of the country.
