Title: Drought Conditions Worsening in Parts of the West

Despite the emergence of deeper monsoon moisture flow into portions of the Central and Northern Rockies over the past week, many areas of WY, NE, MT, UT, ID, CO, NM and the Dakotas continue to see areas of dryness and drought conditions continue.

Over the past week there have been areas of very heavy rain (up to 9 inches in some areas) across portions of the High Plains and Rockies, however, there are many areas that have received no rainfall and drought conditions continue to worsen.

Drought conditions are expanding across portions of WY, southern MT, CO, western NE and across the Pacific Northwest, the Southern Plains and the Great Basin.

Heavy rains from Hurricane Hanna in Texas have helped some dryness there as a slug of monsoonal moisture will bring good rains to parts of Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico this week.

However, drier conditions will likely return to the Rockies and other parts of the western USA this weekend and early next week.
