October Ends Colder and Stormy
As an extraordinarily strong Arctic cold front plows out of the Rockies south and east in the Southern Plains and Midwest this week, record cold temperatures may fall along with snow as far south as Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Hard freezing temperatures will push far to the south and east across the nation this week as we head to the final days of October. The graphic below shows the expected temperatures relative to normal over the next 10 days. Note the cold (blue/green areas) across the nation’s midsection.
Only the southeast and far western areas of the nation will have near to above normal temperatures. Also, note the extensive areas of blue across Canada. The last days of October and the first days of November will be quite cold in many areas. Beef producers should be prepared for some bouts of winter weather this week, especially in the Northern and Southern Plains, Southern Rockies and the Midwest.
